Weather words in Hindi
From scorching summers to the long-awaited monsoon — the Hindi vocabulary of मौसम (mausam, weather), its seasons, and the small-talk sentences you'll use every day.
In much of India the weather is genuinely dramatic — a blazing गर्मी (garmi, summer) gives way to the मानसून (maansoon) that the whole country waits for, then a brief, crisp सर्दी (sardi, winter). Because the seasons are so vivid, weather is a constant topic of conversation, and a handful of words will let you join in.
The umbrella word is मौसम (mausam). Usefully, it covers both "weather" and "season", so आज मौसम अच्छा है (aaj mausam achha hai) is simply "the weather is nice today".

Usage notes & common mistakes
"Hot" and "cold" without "it is". Hindi rarely uses a dummy "it" for weather. You state the condition as a noun: गर्मी है ("there is heat") for "it's hot", and ठंड है ("there is cold") for "it's cold". Don't try to translate "it" literally.
One word, two meanings. गर्मी and सर्दी mean both the season and the sensation. मुझे ठंड लग रही है (mujhe thand lag rahi hai) is the way to say "I feel cold" about yourself, rather than the weather.
Present continuous for ongoing weather. Notice that "raining" uses the हो रही है form — rain is "happening" right now. To say it rained or will rain, you change that verb while keeping बारिश as the subject.
A common mix-up: हवा means both "wind" and "air", and बिजली means both "lightning" and "electricity". Context clears it up every time.
